interesting article about CKD stemming from West Nile Virus, and how measurement of NGAL levels can possibly help in detecting this. With the ONLY reliable and precise NGAL -test with supreme linearity BioPorto may jus have the ideal tool for that.

To  my knowledge it is the first time NGAL is mentioned in a proposed screening for CKD.  I honestly don’t know is its feasible – there might be other ways – but it is interesting that increased NGALlevels are mentioned as an indication of CKD. At least it shows that NGAL is becoming a household word – not just to doctors focusing on AKI. But as you know since NGAL levels in CKD are not in any way as high as during AKI, it is even more important to have a correct and accurate measurement; and in this aspect BioPorto test prevails, especially when you consider the findings of the university of Liege on the accuracy of the POCtest from Alere

West Nile Virus is affecting up to 2 million Americans and one of the hitherto little investigated effects of this disease is a significant rise in patients suffering from CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease)

In the Study there are some (at least to me) new inportant facts about the progression of WNV and especially the fact that apart from resulting in potentially serious brain damage, WNV also affects the kidneys. I quote the report: While it has been known that the most severe forms of the disease have been known to contribute to long-term nerve and brain damage, long-term kidney problems have not been identified before, Murray noted.

An estimated two million Americans have been infected with West Nile, and we advise physicians to screen them for potential kidney disease, because if you catch it early, then the person can be monitored and treated should the disease progress,” said study coauthor, Melissa Nolan, of the National School of Tropical Medicine at BCM.

About Stengaard

BioPorto investor from way back when... I've invested in BioPorto ever since they made their debut on the danish stock exchange, it been a looooong journey with many obstacles. But well worth it all if Bioporto maintains their patent after the proceedings in 2014, and enters into agreements with Global Distributors in 2012 and 2013 If not, then it'll take another xx.years 🙂

    Hej Stengaard. Med de udsigter der er for aktien, har du så en naturlig forklaring på hvorfor den siver sådan ? Det giver ikke mening………

      desværre ikke nogen valid forklaring. Der er lidt usikkerhed omkring afviklingen af emissionen.
      Det er nok rimeligt at antage at der er lidt usikkerhed på grund af de

    der er stor omsætning for tiden, jeg forstår bare ikke hvorfor der er nogen der sælger til denne pris – er det fordi de ikke følger med ? ellers må der være ugler i mosen 🙂

    mht. radio 24/7 var der en aktieekspert på besøg i sidste uge. jeg spurgte til BioPorto. Den havde han selv, og han sagde at de har et super produkt og at de store simens og andre er meget interesserede i et samarbejde med BioPorto. Det glæder mig, for jeg troede egenligt at det var BioPorto der blot efterlyste et samarbejde med de store. Igen et bevis på at de store tror meget på ideen – håber vi snarts ser den i kurs 15………

    I radion 24/7 den 31. august – blev det omtalt flere gange i løbet af dagen at man frygter at West Nile Virus er på vej mod nord i europa. Og at den er konstateret i hhv Ungarn, Grækenland og Spanien/Italien (tror jeg det var). Myggene der har virus er dog næppe glade for den danske sommer (hvem er det ?) – men gæster på ferie risikerer smitte. I sin yderste konsekvens kan West Nile Virus resultere i menigitis (hjernehindebetændelse) – og det er jo en alvorlig sag. Netop sammenhængen mellem det voksende antal smittede og de langsigtede konsekvenser af smitten har givet anledning til et studie om NGAL som diagnostisk markør ..
    Pudsigt nok er der minsandten en artikel om det studie i medicoinvestors righoldige arkiv.. det centrale citat;

    umiddelbart kan jeg bedst se det ske ved en test der har superhøj præcision og lnearitet
    Gæt selv hvilken…
